How To: Undone Waves and Which Tools To Use!

Hi my loves!! Since having Ále, I’ve been on a serious hair journey towards healthier hair and most importantly nailing down a hair routine to achieve perfectly undone waves that will last until my next wash. You guys are constantly asking how I get this look and how my hair routine has changed since becoming a mom! Today I’m sharing an easy to follow, step-by-step photo tutorial on how I get my signature messy beachy waves and showing you guys why this has become my go-to hairstyle. Since having Ále, I’ve definitely learned to streamline my morning routine and spend much less time getting ready in the mornings.

Since I work from home almost everyday, I feel much more productive when I get out of my robe and get dressed for the day, put a little makeup on and most importantly, do my hair! These small things can really make me feel more put-together and  productive all day long. One of the things that’s changed most about my hair routine is making sure that my hairstyle lasts until it’s time to wash again. With this current hair routine, I can usually get up to 3 days out of my waves, which means less bathroom time spent in the mornings and more time with Ale!

After working with some of the best hair and makeup artists in the game for the past decade, I’ve seen and experienced what works and what doesn’t! And I must say that investing in the right hair tools is well worth it. Hot Tools has always been one of my personal favorite hair tool brands. First off, the tools really do work the best, and I’ve literally grown up using them since I was 14 to get some of my favorite hair moments ever!! From my No Secrets days, music videos, to fashion shoots for the blog, and red carpets, I can say that almost every hair and makeup team I’ve worked with has used Hot Tools on set. Hot Tools has been a longtime coveted brand among professional hair stylists, salons, movie sets and I’m so excited that their new Signature Series line is bringing styling tools used by professionals to everyone! The Signature Series is a collection of hot tools that are salon-quality, high-performance, and now available at my go-to stores like Amazon, Target, and Walmart.

What I love about Hot Tools is that every product is high quality, heats up quickly, never chips and most importantly, never fails! Whether I want pin-straight hair or beach waves, I know I can easily achieve all hair looks with my trusty Hot Tools irons! A question I get really often is about what temperature setting I style my hair with. I usually stay within the 300-380 degree range since my hair is pretty thick and textured. The amazing thing about Hot Tools Signature Series irons is that they all have adjustable temperatures; the Straightener can go all the way up to 440 degrees if needed and the Curling Irons go up to 430 degrees! If you’re worried about heat damage, the Pulse Technology ensures that the temperature stays consistent and even so you get the same results every time! I also really appreciate the automatic shut-off features on the Straightening irons because these days, my mom brain gets the best of me lol! Hot Tools also uses ceramic plates which reduce frizz and add shine, so even if your hair is feeling a bit dull before styling, you will see a huge difference afterwards!

This hairstyle has become my go-to because it’s very low maintenance and easy, but always lasts a good 2-3 days! I find that messy loose beach waves are also more forgiving than tight curls because they don’t always need to look perfect! Hope you guys enjoy my step-by-step photo tutorial below and let me know what you think of the final look!

First things first, here are the products you’re going to need for this look.

What You Need:

Hot Tools Signature Series Turbo Ionic Dryer

Hot Tools Signature Series Gold Curling Iron 1”

Hot Tools Signature Series Gold Curling Iron 1 ½”

Hot Tools Signature Series Ceramic Flat Iron 1”

Step 1: You’ll need to start with damp, towel-dried hair. Remember to always use a heat protectant on damp hair to protect your precious locks! I also like to use coconut or almond oil to give my hair some natural shine before styling as well. I start off by clipping sections of my hair. Then I start blow-drying each section of my hair using a big, round brush. What I love about the Hot Tools blow dryer is that it’s motor is super quiet, yet still has a lot of power and maximum airflow! This is so important for me since I usually get ready while Ále is sleeping and can’t risk waking her up!

Step 2: Once your hair is completely dry, start by using the bigger barrel curling iron 1 1/2 ” to curl sections of your hair. I like to use the 1 1/2” size to curl my hair because I love the look of bigger waves.  The first thing I do is wrap a small section of my hair away from the barrel and hold it for about 10 seconds. Then I release the curl into my palm for a few seconds for it to set. I like to switch up the direction of my curls, curling some pieces away from my face and others towards my face. This will make your curls look more natural and not so perfect looking which is exactly what we want to avoid when doing messy beachwaves!

Step 3: After you’re done curling with the bigger barrel iron, use the smaller 1” barrel to pick out a few smaller pieces and make tighter waves so the wave size varies all over. Start by taking very small sections of your hair at the top of your head and closer to your face and wrapping them tightly around the barrel. I like to take the shorter pieces of hair closer to my face and curl away on both sides because I feel like it frames the face a bit better too! Release each curl into your palm and let it cool down in your hand for a few seconds.

Step 4: Once you’re finished curling, use the flat iron on your ends to straighten them out and make sure they look piecey. Spritz a little bit of hairspray or texture spray to hold the look in place and you’re good to go! Sometimes I also like to use some oil to tame my fly-aways and add a bit more shine if needed.

And voila there it is, the perfect easy low-maintenance messy beach waves! If you guys are looking to switch up some of your hair tools without breaking the bank, Hot Tools Signature Series line is definitely worth trying and now available now at Walmart, Amazon, and Target! Try it out for yourself and enjoy a 15% off discount for all Hot Tools products at Target Stores and Target.com now through Saturday, June 15th!
