The year 2017 was full of amazing innovations, new brands, and highly-anticipated launches that transformed beauty, proving that the beauty industry shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. This past year is hard to top, but we’re more than ready to say goodbye and dominate the new year! You know what they say, “New Year, New Beauty.” 2018 is the year of game-changing beauty trends from high-tech gadgets, to barely there foundations, and masking taken to a whole new level. Today on the blog, I’m sharing the top 7 beauty trends you’ll need to keep on your radar for 2018!

 

1. Beauty Gadgets & Anti-Ageing

Portable at-home beauty gadgets will be all the hype in 2018, especially when it comes to the ageing population. Brands are launching new and improved beauty gadgets that will limit those pricey dermatology visits. Think the Derma Roller, but on a whole new level. With new innovations like the  GloPRO Microneedling Regeneration Tool, customers are now able to address their anti-aging skin concerns without the use of lasers or chemicals. Some even turn to this in-home treatment rather than botox, claiming it’s 540 microneedles help rejuvenate your skin and create a younger appearance. 2018 is all about releasing new cool gadgets and in-home beauty treatments so consumers can treat their skin concerns at home rather than going to professionals and laser clinics.

2. Glitter Looks

2018 is all about the sparkle. One of the biggest makeup trends this year will be glitter..think glittery eyes, glitter lips, and glitter highlighters! Brands like Pat McGrath are continuing to release glitter products, GlamGlow recently released their highly anticipated #GlitterMask, following another glitter mask by Too Faced and the list goes on. On the spring runways, designers incorporated glittery elements into the makeup looks like crystals dotted on lash lines at Jeremy Scott, glitter stripes on the eyes at Anna Sui, and gold leaf liner at Zimmermann.

3. Sustainable Beauty Packaging

Beauty brands and consumers are continuing to push for sustainable packaging and products in the New Year. For as long as I can remember, opening a new beauty product takes me quite some time..peeling off all that cellophane and plastic just to get to the box. And no matter how beautiful the packaging is, it will still end up being thrown in the trash at some point. Personal care and beauty products are estimated to account for about a third of all landfill waste. The beauty industry goes through trends of making eco-friendly packaging, but still has yet to make the trend into a long-term commitment. It will be a challenge, but some brands are bringing attention to this issue by collaborating with recycling companies to spread the message (see Remi Cruz’s recent campaign here.)Other brands have already released eco-friendly products such as Burt’s Bees Lipstick, Kevin Murphy, Aveda and Kjaer Weis, where almost everything from blush to eyeshadow is refillable. Another small thing you can do is find brands that offer return-for-rewards systems such as Lush, where you get a free face mask once you’ve returned 5 signature black pots to any of the store locations.

4. Clean Beauty

I’m looking forward to seeing more clean beauty in 2018. Dangerous chemicals such as parabens, sulfates and silicones are found in many personal care and beauty products on the market today. Many studies have proved that these chemicals are linked to serious health problems such as breast cancer. More brands have joined the clean beauty train and started developing natural products free of harsh chemicals. Some of my favorite toxic-free brands are Juice Beauty, Ilia, Herbivore Botanicals, RMS Beauty, and Josie Maran.

5. Water Foundations

Who doesn’t love weightless foundations? This year, water-based foundations are on the rise, with focus on real skin rather than full-coverage, matte looks. We’re all waiting for the highly anticipated launch of the Ordinary’s Watercolor foundations, a formula that is supposedly thinner than water. Crazy right?! The formula will be oil-free, thin, and feel like a translucent skin tint rather than actual foundation.

Multi-masking is so 2017. And so are sheet masks. This year is all about all types of new masks created specifically for your body parts such as chest, arms, hands, pretty much any body part you can imagine! We’re also going to be seeing a lot of new formulas and innovations such as dry masks, glitter masks, foil masks and even jelly masks!
