Most of us ladies are not 100% good or bad, conservative or liberal, feminine or androgynous at all times…most of us in this day and age fall somewhere right in between… We want to do it all, be everything we can be, and look good while doing it. We want to succeed and be bosses in our professional lives, and supermoms, wives, or girlfriends at home, all while finding the time to workout, eat right, and make sufficient time for our friends and families. It’s an exhausting time to be a woman…but a very promising and exciting time for all of us.

Last night I was watching the presidential debate and as I listened to Hillary speak and address social issues from a woman’s perspective, with a soft but strong, empathetic and personal touch, real life examples at hand, it really made me feel proud to be a woman in this era. Regardless of your political views, I think we can all agree that this is a pretty special time and we should celebrate in that we have finally entered an era when women genuinely can do whatever we set our minds to, and be respected as equals in the process.

That being said, that’s how I’m approaching my personal style these days. I come from the music industry, and in pursuing a professional career in pop music since I was 14, I grew up wanting to be sexy, because the strong and successful artists I admired (Beyonce, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna) were that, and seemed to have the world in the palms of their hands. What I didn’t understand as a 14 year old girl, is that sexy, is really only sexy, when it is issued in doses. For example, for every song like ‘Baby Boy’ that Beyonce has released, there is another like ‘Irreplaceable’ to even the scale. For every film like ‘U-Turn’ that Jennifer Lopez starred in that was full of sexual content, there was another like ‘Enough’ to remind women how strong and capable we are.

A bit off topic, but this outfit and how I like to address my daily looks, is just that, a bit sexy and ladylike but not gratuitous. I’m wearing a sheer, see-through blouse by Lurelly, but it’s tied up to my neck and worn with high waisted flares that are not too tight for a look that is fun and serious, sexy yet professional. While I wouldn’t necessarily wear this in a board room, the concept is there and I trust you to adapt and make it your own :)

5 More Ways To Style A See-Through Shirt For Real Life:

1. Layer your blouse over a silky, lacy cami. The details and slight sheen will look lovely through the top.
2. Couple your blouse with anything high-waisted: loose trousers or a 3/4 length a-line skirt are a perfect balance.
3. Pair your blouse with a suit! This is one of my favorite ways to wear this look, and because you’ll be mostly covered by a blazer, you can get away with wearing just a bralette for coverage. Just be sure it’s the type of bra that’s meant to be seen and nothing too padded.
4. I’m loving the new denim this season and juxtaposing a great pair of distressed, high waisted jeans (see here) is the perfect casual way to wear this look.
5. Wear your see-through blouse underneath a slip dress or bustier for a layered style that’s girly and fresh!
